Pahi Janani- Natakurinji - Maharaja Swathi Tirunal | Gayathri Venkataraghavan

Maharaja Swathi Tirunal's Navaratri Kritis are each an essay in Devotion, Musicality, Poetry, elegance in description and an epitome of Surrender.

He brings before our eyes the vision of the Goddess with his narrative. PahiJanani which is the 8th day Navaratri composition , is adorned in Raga Natakurinji.

He says "O peerless one, your face is like the full moon (Vidhuvadane ), grant us all auspiciousness ( Dehi Sakala Shubade)
O Himavan's daughter, the one who vanquished Chanda and Munda".
"Janani , my mother, you reside in the heart which is pure and filled with Shantam, You are glowing in this flawless haram, O Padmanabha's sister we praise you, surrener to you, please protect.

It was a great experience recording this song during a recent visit to Karnataka we were fortunate to go to this quaint, beautiful temple.
A rare kind of temple dedicated to Panchayatana worship.
The weather was great having rained, the river was flowing happily laughing and dancing, the fields outside the temple were lush and what a lovely green. Corridors of the temple was dotted by flowers of all colours !

There she was glowing happily sometimes like a little Bale and at other times like Loka Janani. While we had planned to record some other song here, Pāhi Janani just happened and we went with the flow she had created.
