The freedom of speech and expression and the liberty of the press guaranteed under Article 19 (1)(a) are not absolute and clause (2) of Article 19 specifies the limits up to which this freedom may be restricted. The various heads under which the legislature can impose reasonable restrictions on this right will be dealt with in this presentation, which include the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency and morality, contempt of Court, defamation, incitement to an offence, and sovereignty and integrity of India.
