First Haskap (Honeyberries) for the season June 14, 2022

The Haskaps are a great fruit bush to add to your garden. They are very cold hardy and are among the first fruit that ripens in the season. Although they don't live up to their name (honeyberry) their tart/sour/bitter flavor will grow on you! These bushes are super easy to take care of. We fertilize once a year with a general purpose fertilizer. We hardly water them (there is lots of mulch under them). For winter prep, we do nothing!

All of our bushes are in their third season but some produce better than others. The Polar Jewel is the heaviest producers followed by the Indigo Gem. Certain varieties must be planted together. In our case, as shown in the video, from left to right the varieties are as follows:

Honeyberry Boralis Beast
Honeyberry Male (Berry Blue, Lonicera Haskap). Russian series.
Honeyberry Female (Borealis, Lonicera Haskap)
Indigo Gem Honeyberry (Haskap Caerulea)
Polar Jewel Honeyberry (Haskap edulis kantschatica)
