Описание к видео 10 Facts - Jewish immigration to Palestine/Israel? (1947-2014)

These videos aim to detail how Jewish immigration happened from early 19th century till today.

Part 1 details the different waves of immigration (Aliyah) from 1800 till 1947 when the UN General Assembly resolution 181 partitioned the land of Palestine into a Jewish State, a Palestinian State and an International Territory - Jerusalem.

Part 2 details the different waves of immigration after the first Arab-Israeli war of 1948 and throughout the cold war until today.

It is worth noting that the region was under Ottoman rule till after the first World War and the British Mandate for Palestine took place from 1922 till 1948.

Some definitions:

Zionist Movement is a nationalist movement of Jews and Jewish culture that supports the creation of a Jewish homeland in the territory defined as the Land of Israel

Aliyah is the immigration of Jews from the diaspora (Jews abroad) to the land of Palestine/Israel.

Aliyah Bet was the codename given to illegal immigration. Bet being the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

Kibbutz is a collective community that was traditionally based on agriculture

Halutzim translates to pioneers as most newcomers of the third aliyah were young and worked at improving the conditions of the land by building roads and towns and draining marshes.

The Havaara Agreement or Transfer Agreement was signed on 25 August 1933 after three months of talks by Zionist representatives and the economic authorities of Nazi Germany. The agreement was designed to help facilitate the emigration of German Jews to Palestine and obliging them to exchange their assets with German export goods.

Ma'barot were immigrant absorption camps in Israel in the 1950s providing accommodation for the large influx of Jews arriving after the war of 1948.

Core Jewish population includes people who identify as Jews by religion, as well as others who are not interested in religion but see themselves as Jews by ethnicity or by other cultural criteria. Some others do not even recognize themselves as Jews when
asked, but they descend from Jewish parents and do not hold another religious identity. All of these are considered to be part of the core Jewish population which also includes all converts to Judaism by any procedure, as well as other people who declare they are Jewish even without conversion.

Enlarged Jewish population includes the sum of the
core Jewish population; all other persons of Jewish parentage who are not currently Jewish (non-Jews with Jewish
background); and all respective non-Jewish household members (spouses, children, etc.)

Law of Return awards Jewish new immigrants immediate
citizenship and other civil rights. According to the current Law of Return a Jew is any person born to a Jewish mother or converted to
Judaism (regardless of denomination—Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist, or Reform), who does not have another religious identity.
