Dialysis machines are complicated. One of the hardest things to understand abou tthe dialysis machine settings are CONDUCTIVITY PROFILES.

CONDUCTIVITY IS A DIALYSIS TERM FOR SODIUM.

And what do we know about sodium?

ANSWER: Whereever sodium (SALT) goes, water goes.

CONDUCTIVITY PROFILES use this property of salt to help pull fluid off the patient that has it.

ANSWER: CONDUCTIVITY (Sodium) profiles/settings help patients who have fluid overload symptoms like hypertension, shortness of breath, edema, but have trouble with removing their extra fluid because of cramping, hypotension, nausea and vomitting.

So by setting the DIALYSATE with a HIGH CONDUCTIVITY/SODIUM LEVEL, the Conductivity/Salt is helping pull fluid from their body to the blood stream, and then through the dialyzer.
