Grumman F-14A Tomcat "Top Gun Iceman & Slider" 1/72 Academy Full Build Video | RWO Models

Описание к видео Grumman F-14A Tomcat "Top Gun Iceman & Slider" 1/72 Academy Full Build Video | RWO Models

Another Top Gun F-14A Tomcat build in 1/72 scale, but this time it’s "Iceman & Slider" instead of the ubiquitous "Maverick". Originally I had planned to do Maverick’s plane as well but after watching "Top Gun: Maverick" I was so impressed by Val Kilmer’s emotional appearance and the way Iceman's character had evolved that I immediately decided to build "his" aircraft from the first Top Gun movie released in 1986.

Most of you will know the story about the F-14s that were used for the production of the movie. The aircraft looked heavily weathered, and in the aerial sequences it's sometimes a bit confusing which aircraft belongs to which character since a number of different planes had been used. I watched the Blu-Ray over and over again and virtually studied the sequences frame by frame. The aircraft I tried to replicate is only visible for a couple of seconds but I managed to get a few decent screenshots to use as a template. Besides the characteristic color scheme caused by the faded surfaces as well as the constantly applied corrosion protection paint you will notice that this particular plane displays the "104" Modex on the nose whereas it has "106" on the flaps. This is authentically correct and can actually be seen on-screen. It was probably overlooked during the production.

The kit I used is the fabulous Academy New Tool release, the decals were taken from the Italeri Top Gun set which also includes Viper's A-4 (you'll find a video of my build on the channel right here:    • Top Gun Viper’s Douglas A-4 Skyhawk 1...  ). Since the decal sheet only included the cockpit decals for Maverick and Goose I needed custom printed decals for Iceman and Slider. Big thanks to my sweetheart who designed and printed the decals for me!

Let me know what you think of this build. Your comments and opinions are highly appreciated. Please bear in mind I am not a professional modeler, I just build these models for fun and relaxation and to help regain my mental and physical health.
