After trials and tribulations in the past two years at UTMB I think I came very close to a ‘perfect race’. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to improve my time by almost 9 hours from last year and I’m still trying to figure out how my legs got me through it the way they did.

This year was nothing like the what I’ve experienced in the past with heavy rainfall turning into snow the closer we got to the peaks on the first night. The downhills were a total mess with mud everywhere and through pure luck i managed to get unscathered through the downhills without taking any falls on the way down to Courmayeur.

After reaching Courmayer with all of my gear drenched I changed my socks and kept pushing forward. Fortunately the weather kept dry for the remaining of the race.

All through Saturday I was just waiting for the inevitable low point to arrive, but somehow I managed to get all the way to the last (never ending) ascent to La Flegere before my legs were COMPLETELY out of gas. I did my best to push through until the top where all that was left to run the final descent down to Chamonix.

Getting to Chamonix at 2:30AM I was SO happy to cross the finish line and see my amazing support crew! I couldn’t have done it without their support.

This years race was insane and I’m so proud of how I tackled the race and the months of preparation leading up to the race, completing several 50km+ runs, doing laps upon laps around hills with max elevation of 160m. But all of that training came to fruition in the end. Thank you to everyone for your support and words of encouragement. It gave me the energy to keep moving forward.
