Used cooking oil (also called waste vegetable oil) is a great biodiesel feedstock, but it's important to remember that the oil quality can affect the biodiesel production process. It's important to test the oil beforehand to see if the Free Fatty Acid (FFA) levels are too high, which can create soaps and emulsions. This video will walk you through an Acid Number Titration to test your waste oil. If the FFA level is between 3-5%, you probably want to pretreat the oil before turning it into biodiesel.
