This work is one of Schubert’s late piano sonatas, completed in 1826, and it bears the subtitle “Fantasia”It highlights Schubert’s characteristic lyricism and inner depth, and its gentle, pastoral atmosphere has made it one of the most especially beloved among his piano sonatas.The sonata is dedicated to Schubert’s friend and patron, Carl Maria von Bocklet.

Ⅰ. Fantasie. Molto moderato e cantabile, G Major, 12/8 time, Sonata form
The first movement begins gently, as if singing, and is characterized by a long, rich melody and a quiet yet profound atmosphere. The nickname “Fantasia”seems to stem largely from the distinctive character of this movement.
