Happy Birthday! Today Diana Ross celebrates her 80th anniversary on this planet. Ross began her musical career in a group called "The Primettes" when she was just 15 years old. Alongside her partners Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Betty McGlown the group soon became "The Supremes" and after McGlown left and her replacement Barbara Martin also left to start a family, the trio became one of the most successful girl groups of all time.

Managed by the Motown Label from Detroit, Michigan the Supremes reached incredible heights with 12 #1 songs in their homecountry. While Wilson and Ross stayed together until the end of the 60s, Ballard was fired and replaced by Cindy Birdsong and the name of the group was altered to "Diana Ross & The Supremes". At the end of 1969 Diana Ross then started an almost equally successful solo-career.

But this is about "The Supremes" and their work. So in this video you can find my favorite 10 songs of this groundbreaking trio (all songs in the video are #1's in the US Billboard Chart). They were inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2023 they got a Lifetime Achievement Award at that year's Grammys.
