This simulation shows the impact of a modified 7.5cm PzGr. 39 with Tungsten Alloy penetrator being fired from a German Tiger II tank modified with a smoothbore 75mm gun at a range of 0.31KM, targeting the front hull of a US M26 Pershing tank.

The Panther F shown here was modified with a smoothbore gun, allowing the penetrator to align with the sloped armour with the help of foldable fins. As we can see, the sloped penetrator managed to deform the first layer of armour in such a way that the impact angle became nearly perpendicular. The standard hardened steel cap fails to align the projectile in this way and cannot transfer all of its kinetic energy effectively.

This version of the PzGr weighs 9.4 kg due to the tungsten penetrator, compared to the original 6.8 kg round—suggesting the use of a more efficient propellant. The high density of tungsten gives the projectile greater kinetic energy upon impact.

Considering that the front hull of the M26 can withstand most AP rounds, the modified PzGr performed impressively.
