One of the strangest games I've read, Monte Cook's Numenera is a strange mix of D&D, Champions, Rifts and way too many drugs in the 60's. Set a billion years in the future using a combination of super tech you don't understand and swords and bows. It shows a lot of imagination in the setting but has serious issues with game balance and a lack of imagination in character actions. I've always held that world building is just as important a campaign structure as fighting, interaction and exploration and this game showcases that as it handicaps itself by restricting the players to being pretty much scavengers for magical artifacts, never letting them actually create things of their own.
