Hey, everyone, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a '21 Ram 2500, and we're gonna take a look at the CURT CrossWing. First thing you'll notice right off the bat, it's a little bit different than your standard fifth wheel hitch. The head itself is gonna be designed with this king pin adapter. So you basically, (metal thudding) this would attach to the king pin on your trailer. You'd simply back up.

Once it hits here, you lower your trailer, (metal thudding) slide your large pin into place to lock it down, and you're ready to go. The hitch is designed to make hooking up, disconnecting, putting it in, and removing it a lot easier for you. One person can take this hitch out when they're done using it or put it in place, which makes it lightweight. It's gonna fit with industry standard rails. So maybe you buy a vehicle that already has rails in it but you don't have a hitch, it'd be a great option for you, so long as the rails are industry standard.

This is gonna have a 20,000 pound towing capacity. Again, this particular one's gonna be designed for above bed rails. If you have a factory puck system, there are options available. You can find those here at etrailer. Now have you noticed, if you've got this in a shorter bed truck, 6 1/2 foot bed, this particular setup is actually designed for an eight foot bed.

However, that doesn't mean you can't use it in a shorter bed truck. As long as you have the Sidewinder king pin, or a Sidewinder pin box, all you need to do is get the adapter plate for this, and you can use this in a shorter bed truck. For those of you that are not familiar with a Sidewinder, the rotation is actually not gonna be on the hitch side, it's gonna be on the trailer side. So on typical fifth wheel, your pin would slide down in here or sit in here, and it actually rotate on this. With the Sidewinder, this is locked in place, or your pin's locked in place, and on your king pin side or on your pin box side, your pin box actually rotates underneath the trailer.

So your pivot point is actually gonna be back here under your trailer and not up here. Now we can reach the handle from outside the truck. This truck, as I mentioned, 2,500 sitting, seems like it's sitting kind of high to me. It is a little bit of a stretch for me to get to. Something to keep in mind for this particular hitch. I will say it seems like this hitch is sitting pretty low. There are already gonna be three height adjustments, from 16 and 3/8 up to 20 3/8. So if we had it sitting a little bit higher or closer to the top of the bed, it may be a little bit easier to reach from there. This is gonna have a five inch offset, which means it's gonna push your king pin back five inches. It's gonna give you a little bit more clearance between the cab and the front of your trailer. It's gonna be made up at a high-grade steel, nice black powder-coat finish. It's really gonna hold up well. As far as maintenance goes, there's not really any maintenance needed. You don't have any Zerk fittings to put grease in. Every once in a while, you may wanna check the torque on the bolts just to make sure that they're torqued down, which every hitch is gonna recommend you do that anyway. Other than that, that's our look at the CURT CrossWing 20,000 pound hitch.
