This film is my own interpretation and embodiment of Audre Lorde’s “Uses of the Erotic.” I focused on a few key quotes and passages that resonated with me in the space and time I am residing in currently. The concept of an erotic joy, carrying that eroticism and sensuality into every part of your life and in doing so, centering your own pleasure and needs instead of others. I have been slowly, but surely, discovering this power. The more I listened to my inner self, the more life felt right. I didn’t have words for these feelings until I read Lorde’s piece. It was like putting on a pair of glasses, the fuzzy shapes that I had become familiar with but could not name suddenly came into focus with delicious clarity and I needed them now more than ever. I crave the erotic in my life, exactly as Lorde describes; “For having experienced the fullness of this depth of feeling and recognizing its power, in honor and self-respect we can require no less of ourselves.”
