Alan Wilson Watts (January 6, 1915 to November 16, 1973) was an American philosopher, writer, and orator born in the United Kingdom, most famously for the Western readers’ opinions on Eastern philosophy Explanation and promotion. He was born in Chislehurst, England, moved to the United States in 1938, and began meditation in New York. After starting his career, he attended the Sebury-Western Theological Seminary, where he obtained a master's degree in theology. Watts became a bishop in 1945, then left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1950 and moved to California, where he joined the American Academy of Asian Studies.
