Living with POTS: The Hidden Struggle | Finding Help

Cole developed sudden-onset POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) at a young age and quickly became disabled by symptoms no one could explain. Multiple pediatric providers and specialist dismissed his condition—telling him it was “all in his head.” Without a diagnosis or treatment plan, Cole’s health continued to decline.

Everything changed when he finally found providers who understood POTS and knew how to treat it. With proper care and validation, Cole began to heal and regain parts of his life that POTS had taken away.

His story highlights a critical question:

What if all pediatricians were trained to recognize and treat POTS?

How many children and families would be spared years of suffering, fear, and dismissal?

Key Message From Cole’s Mother

“POTS is like riding a roller coaster—and it’s not a fun one. No one signs up for this. There are endless ups and downs, but once we started treatment, our downs weren’t as long-lasting. What if all pediatricians learned to treat POTS? Parents and children would finally feel validated, knowing something is physically wrong. POTS is treatable. Every day is different and it’s a struggle, but you have to keep trying and keep fighting. You’ll still have ups and downs, but as you treat it and fight it, every day gets a little better.”
