Angklung is a full-ranged, traditional percussion instrument originating from Indonesia and part of Singapore’s ethnic arts. The nature of angklung music is ensemble-based hence in this programme, students will learn to work together to produce a beautiful melody. This trains students to be a team player as everyone plays an important role in harmonising the music. Additionally, the programme aims to:
- Cultivate students’ appreciation for ethnic arts
- Develop skills such as reading musical notes and expressing a music piece
- Improve social and cognitive skills

Teacher's Profile:
Mei Tan is a flautist and music teacher who is well-versed in instructing various instruments, as well as digital music creation. She attained her Bachelor’s in Music Performance from Kingston University, London, and further pursued a Postgrad certificate in the Suzuki method from Malmo Conservatory, Sweden.

Since 2017, she has taught individual piano classes at ART:DIS. Her other recent experience includes teaching music at Oasis Primary School and United World College South East Asia, instructing keyboards and the ukulele at Catholic High, and ethnic percussion instruments at Singapore Chinese Girls School, Holy Innocent’s Primary, St. Joseph’s Institute and more.
