On the 2nd of November 2024, Steamrail Victoria operated their "Vintage Train to Castlemaine" from Melbourne to Castlemaine, with steam locomotive R761.

The event was hosted by Steamrail Victoria, a volunteer organisation just outside of Newport.

The event started in the morning with R761 transferring to Southern Cross Station where the locomotive would switch ends of the train. Afterwards, the train would depart and storm out North West to Castlemaine given the name.
