Want a direct mail idea that could be worth $400,000 a year to you?
Here's the story.
I just got off the phone with a very happy client. He's now negotiating to purchase a firm that'll net him about $400,000 a year.
After he closes this deal, he can close another, and another, and another. Because we've got a long list of prospective sellers that we're going to mail a sales letter to that I wrote ...
... but I really didn't write it as much as I heard it.
You see, you don't have to write great sales messages if you can hear them.
What I did was I interviewed him and his partner, and just listened to them talk about the target market.
Turns out, my client's partner is a member of this target market and she listed a whole bunch of worries and fears and problems these people have. I listened and basically transcribed what she said, then turned them into a sales letter.
What happened after we mailed the letter?
My client said: "Kevin, you should have seen this guy's face. He sat down, he said 'Wow, who wrote this letter? It hit on every point that I'm thinking about.'"
My client went on to say that the prospect's wife actually opened the letter, handed it to the prospect, and said: "You have to read this!"
We hit a bullseye by putting a message in front of a prospect that talked about his problems, his worries, and his fears -- in words he would normally use.
Because I interviewed and recorded the words of someone very similar to him.
Again, the message is: You don't have to write great sales messages if you can hear them.
If you are exactly a match for your target market, then simply talk about what your fears, worries, and problems are and you can probably be halfway to a very good sales message.
If that's not you, then interview your best clients, let them talk about their problems, their worries, their frustrations, get those words on paper -- boom! There's half your sales message right there.
Finally, there's a principle I've been using now for several years, I call it The Voice of The Buyer.
What you can do is analyze all of the online reviews and testimonials about your business, look for the exact words of people who have already purchased your product or service, and you'll find language that's going to resonate with your market.
I'll end by repeating this because it's so valuable: You don't have write great sales messages if you can hear them.
