Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The overall design of the Staria is innovative and quite different from most, if not all the other vans currently available in today's market. There is nothing like it and this design is distinctively Hyundai design language. It is also cool that the details like the side mirrors, door handles, and the front grille to name a few are colored in bronze or copper, rather than just the usual chrome or black detail colors. The design of the exterior really looks premium because of that. Moving over to the inside, the interior materials are all good quality and the leather seats feel premium especially with their heating and cooling functions. It even has arm rests, which would be useful to rest one's arm during long drives. This vehicle has some good technological features too such as a 360-degree camera with good quality and various angles, and the blind spot camera which turns on when the turn signal is activated. Its importance is to help the driver see if there is an obstacle like another vehicle in the direction the driver is intending to turn to.
Being a turbodiesel, the engine provides good output especially low-end torque. This helps the vehicle to not feel cumbersome when starting from a standstill or from a slow speed because it is a big and heavy van. The engine's power is transferred to all wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission which shifts smoothly in automatic mode and responds quickly enough in manual mode. Being a big van though, the steering is nicely and unexpectedly light which makes driving this van easier than it seems. Its steering still has some good weight on it, but like what was previously said it is not too much. The accelerator and brake pedals are responsive enough to inputs which make the car easy to drive quickly when it is safe to do so. The comfort given by the suspension and the noise insulation are good enough. Overall, this van feels stable at low and higher speeds because of its size. This makes it an ideal vehicle for long road trips on highways and such, just like the Nissan Patrol.
