CONSORT stands for:
CON - Consolidated
S - Standards
O - of
R - Reporting
T - Trials
They were first derived in 2001 and revised in 2010. The main set of guidelines was developed specifically for the individually randomized 2-group parallel trials that are the most simple and possibly the most common types of clinical trials.
The set of guidelines is available for all designs & interventions like Non-Pharmacological interventions, Herbal interventions, Chinese herbal Medicine, social and psychological interventions, etc.
When to use CONSORT guidelines?
Prof. Roger Watson advises that they should be used at the beginning of the process to ensure you don't miss out on anything.
