NO WAY OUT! 2025 Honda HR-V
Welcome back to the channel! Today, we’re taking a deep dive into the 2025 Honda HR-V, a compact SUV that offers a lot of what people love about its bigger sibling, the CR-V, but in a smaller, city-friendly package. While it has many of the practical features Honda fans expect, there are a few areas where the HR-V might not quite hit the mark for everyone. Let’s break down everything you need to know about the 2025 HR-V, including its strengths, weaknesses, and what makes it unique in the subcompact crossover world.
OVERVIEW AND WHAT'S NEW.
The 2025 Honda HR-V doesn’t bring any major updates compared to last year, except for a slight bump in its price. The starting price for the HR-V is $26,750, which goes up to $30,850 for the higher trims. Among these, the Sport trim offers great value with additional features over the base LX and a price under $30,000, along with some sleek 18-inch black wheels. For those wanting all-wheel drive, it’s an option on any trim level for an additional $1,500.
ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE.
One of the HR-V’s main limitations is its performance. In the U.S., it comes with a single engine option: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 158 horsepower. If you think that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same engine found in the Honda Civic. However, in the heavier HR-V, this powertrain feels a bit sluggish, particularly when accelerating or passing on the highway. In fact, the HR-V takes about 9.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, which is slower than rivals like the Mazda CX-30. The HR-V’s performance may not thrill driving enthusiasts, but we hope Honda eventually offers a hybrid or turbocharged option for more power.
FUEL ECONOMY.
On the bright side, the HR-V delivers respectable fuel efficiency. Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, while all-wheel-drive models see a slight dip to 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. During a 75-mph highway test, the all-wheel-drive HR-V actually exceeded expectations, achieving 32 mpg and allowing for around 440 miles on a single tank. Not bad for those who want a practical daily driver without frequent fuel stops.
INTERIOR, COMFORT, AND CARGO SPACE.
The HR-V’s interior design borrows heavily from the Civic, giving it a modern and classy look. The cabin is both functional and comfortable, with supportive front seats that offer plenty of adjustment options. While the design is a bit understated, Honda has added plenty of thoughtful storage spaces and compartments to keep things organized. When it comes to cargo, the HR-V impresses with room for up to seven carry-on suitcases in the trunk. Fold down the rear seats, and you’ll have enough space to fit 22 suitcases – quite a feat for a subcompact crossover.
INFOTAINMENT AND CONNECTIVITY.
All 2025 HR-V models come with either a 7.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreen. Both screens include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though wireless connectivity for these features is only available with the larger 9.0-inch screen on the top EX-L trim. This trim also includes wireless smartphone charging, SiriusXM, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, ensuring that you stay connected on the road.
SAFETY FEATURES.
Honda hasn’t skimped on safety with the HR-V. It comes standard with a suite of driver-assistance features, including automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. These features make the HR-V a solid choice for those who prioritize safety. For crash test results, check the NHTSA and IIHS websites for more detailed information on its performance.
WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE COVERAGE.
Honda’s warranty coverage is on the basic side. You get a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. While some rivals, like the Hyundai Kona and Kia Seltos, offer longer warranty plans, Honda does provide a one-year complimentary maintenance package, which adds some value.
CONCLUSION.
So, is the 2025 Honda HR-V right for you? If you’re looking for a practical, fuel-efficient subcompact SUV with plenty of cargo space and safety features, it could be a great fit. However, if you’re after a more spirited drive, you might want to explore options like the Mazda CX-30 or Hyundai Kona.
