Like a modern-day gangster, Connor Shelby spends his days stealing from unsuspecting victims on remote highways in rural Australia. He justified his actions by saying that he was saving money in the hope of rescuing the love of his life, Lucy Miller, from the harsh and unforgiving Australian outback.

Across the country, a serial killer travels from town to town "in search of God," executing those he deems "guilty." Detectives Albert and Ernest are on his trail; they follow the body's trail with purpose and logic to find and stop the killer. Their hunt takes them to the South Australian town of Renmark, Connor's current refuge.
