Umbrella Academy Season 3 Behind The Scenes

The Umbrella Academy is back - and this time it includes the Sparrows! Having seven siblings was a lot - so welcoming in a few new ones - and a cube of doom, well it made for a busy and chaotic set. Filming in a pandemic was something a lot of productions had to deal with, but a lot of productions don’t require a full fourteen characters on screen at a time. To say the Umbrella academy was a bit crowded is an understatement. The team filmed in plenty of locations, but they also spent a lot of time in a studio on built sets and filming stunts in front of green screens.
To prepare for all those stunts - which many of the actors did themselves- the training regimen was intense. Actor Justin H. Min faced the most grueling conditioning work, getting shredded to portray a character he thought he knew. A very young cast member did some of the most daring stunts - which is surprising because another young actor was actually banned from being on set during certain scenes, meaning a body double took their place multiple times!
The gorilla is back - but he’s lost some weight. Actor Tom Hopper didn’t escape his ape-man suit, but he did get an upgraded one featuring a much more svelte-looking primate physique! His feedback on how uncomfortable the suit was before was taken into consideration - a common practice on the Umbrella Academy set. All the actors get consulted during the writing process to keep everyone on the same page when the cameras start rolling! Thanks to this dream team, we got another stellar season of Umbrella Academy.
