Part 13 – The Coldest Ride Yet! ❄️
Our epic motorcycle journey through Gilgit-Baltistan continues as we leave Lodges by Baron at Attabad Lake and ride deep into the heart of the Karakoram Highway under a spellbinding blue moonlit sky.

The night was cold, the air thin, and the road ahead challenging — filled with broken patches, sharp turns, and blinding headlights from oncoming traffic. Yet, nothing could stop the roar of the Yamaha R1 and the growl of the Power Sultan 250cc, carving their way through the dark valleys of Hunza towards the mystical Passu Cones.

Our destination for the night? The legendary YAK Grill, nestled in the serene valley of Passu, known for its warm ambiance and iconic mountain views.
But first, we had to face the icy winds, treacherous turns, and surreal beauty of the Karakoram Highway, surrounded by ancient glaciers and towering peaks.

Karakoram Highway (KKH) —
Known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, this 1,300-km highway connects Pakistan with China through the Khunjerab Pass. Built jointly by Pakistan and China between 1959 and 1979, the KKH winds through some of the world’s most dramatic landscapes — glaciers, rocky cliffs, and valleys that tell the story of millions of years of tectonic evolution.

Passu Village (36.4516° N, 74.8917° E) —
A picturesque settlement in Upper Hunza, Passu is famed for its Passu Cones (or Cathedrals of the North), a series of uniquely pointed mountain peaks that rise above 6,100 meters. The region is also home to the Passu Glacier, Batura Glacier, and the warm hospitality of the Wakhi people.

YAK Grill, Passu —
A cozy roadside restaurant located at the foot of the Passu Cones, known for its local yak meat delicacies, hot soups, and tea. It has become a popular rest stop for travelers and bikers exploring the KKH — the perfect place to warm up after a long, freezing ride through the mountains.
