House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Friday morning after senators struck down Democrats’ effort to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of the year.

The Senate took up dueling health care plans on Thursday, and both failed to garner the support needed to advance. Democrats pushed for a 3-year extension of the ACA tax credits as health care premiums rise, while the Republican plan centered on promoting health savings accounts to pay out-of-pocket costs.

Jeffries and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) leaned heavily in on addressing the expiring subsidies during the 43-day government shutdown.

The press conference also comes as the GOP took another blow in its redistricting fight after senators in Indiana blocked a new map, which was backed by President Trump.
