Описание к видео Decapping an IC Without Acid - Sonic the Hedgehog Edition

Here is another video of me opening up a plastic encapsulated part, the ADSP-2181BST-115 from Analog Devices. While browsing the Silicon Zoo's website, I came across this part. The website stated that Sonic was found deep inside this chip, so a listing for some parts on Ebay and wanted to see for myself. As you can see, Sonic does indeed live on this chip!

Like always, to open this part I am using hot air from my hot air rework station to open these parts. I have both the air speed and temperature knobs cranked to 11 ( temperature is set to 480 degrees C). After about 30 seconds or so on each side, I carefully nip away at the plastic, which almost falls apart from what the heat has done to the material. When enough of the die is exposed, I gently push on it (while still heating it) until it breaks free. Sometimes this can be risky though, as the tool I use to push can easily leave a mark on the die, or there is always a chance that the epoxy will stick to the die and come with it. This part was one of the easiest times I've had opening part though.

I hope you enjoy seeing Sonic as much as I did!
