The key difference between the map method and $.map method is
$.map method gives us an object back for every plain array items it iterates over
also, the sequence of the callback function parameters are different than the normal map function,
in map function the index parameter comes at the first place and the element parameter comes at the second place, but in $.map function the array item parameter comes in first place and the index comes in the second place.
