Coffee with Conservationists was born out of The Belize Collection’s desire to make meaningful impact in areas of environmental sustainability. We wanted to go beyond the environmentally friendly practices already taking place at our resorts.
What began as a simple Earth Day idea panned out into a year-long project involving eight conservation organizations. Our team felt strongly about using the platform we’ve steadily built with our brand to give an audience to crucial blue and green conservation work taking place in Belize. We saw a gap we could fill.
We wanted to have important conversations about the daily work that takes place behind the scenes to keep Belize a beloved little country and top tourist destination. There are people doing the work that allow us to enjoy the wildlife and nature of Belize. The wonders that visitors experience at marine reserves or in rainforest nature reserves and go home and tell stories of have stewards. And, oftentimes, these stewards aren’t being given enough airtime.
So we went directly to the experts. We reached out to the conservationists spearheading the work, and we asked them to tell their stories.
This first episode focuses on The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center. Conservation Program Manager Jamal Andrewin-Bohn tells us about their mission and ongoing projects.
