Kevin Tucker, MD, defines culturally competent care and discusses his own approach to understanding who patients are and what the best ways of communicating with them might be. Making assumptions about patients based on demographics is highlighted as a barrier to providing culturally competent care.   
  
Dr. Tucker is the vice president of education for Mass General Brigham and an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. This video is part 8 in the 15-part series: Health Care Disparities.
