I was eight years old when I first heard your call,
Barefoot steps through the red dirt clay.
Mama’s voice called from the porch on the hill —

Minnows darted through the shallows and sand,
While the sun LAID GOLD on the back... of my HAAAAANDS
I learned what it meant just to breathe again,
In the peace that lives at that Quiet Creek Bend.

Years rolled on and the storms blew through,
But this place stayed the same as the day I knew.
