In this short video, Emma Jorstad, Senior Project Manager at MentorMate, explains the difference between Scrum master vs. Project manager. They both can be someone’s job title. However, both of these can be roles on a project team that help ensure a successful project. One person can do both roles when they do different things. It’s like wearing different hats.

As a Scrum master, you are a member of the project team responsible for leading Agile principles, clearing obstacles and blockers, supporting and coaching the product owner, and protecting the team from outside distractions. The goal is to make the team as successful as possible.

As a Project manager, you lead the team by planning and executing the project, hold team members accountable to deliverables as you define them on the road-mapper timeline, and manage risk. Ultimately, the Project manager ensures that they deliver the project on time, on budget, with the right scope.
