This week, we teamed up with the European Commission to unlock 10 billion euros in new financing for health biotechnology. Europe is a leader in health innovation - from vaccine development to treatments for cancer and childhood disease – and we need to ensure that breakthrough innovation made in Europe can scale and thrive here too.

We are also working hand in hand to deliver homes for families and citizens across the EU. The EIB will step up to 6 billion euros in 2026 financing for innovation in the construction sector, renovation of the existing stock and new building projects.

We announced new financing for farmers in Romania, textile recycling in France, research and development into the next generation 6G mobile communications in Finland. And in Spain, financing to upgrade the regional train network in Cataluña and advisory support for the groundbreaking Thirty Metre Telescope project in La Palma. This will be the world’s largest, and most precise optical telescope, putting Europe at the forefront of international space exploration and research.

A final word on Ukraine, where this week we delivered financing for local transport, as well as education and medical facilities.

We are closing a very intense and productive year at the EIB Group. We are on track to meet the 100 billion euros target in financing, supporting projects inside the EU and around the world contributing to prosperity, security and peace.
