Authorities initially feared the object contained human remains and launched a full investigation, with the coroner’s office collecting the bear as evidence.

However, the creepy toy turned out to be a latex prop known as the “Human Skin Teddy Bear,” created by South Carolina artist Robert Kelly of Dark Seed Creations. Kelly confirmed he shipped the bear to a customer in Victorville last week but had no part in placing it at the scene. The bear, made from latex molds, is currently sold online for $165 and has gained attention in the horror and special effects community.

“I don’t know if it broke any laws, but it definitely got people riled up,” Kelly told reporters, adding that his company is well-known for producing props that simulate human flesh for haunted attractions and films. The artist posted a Facebook video clarifying his distance from the prank, stating he was unaware of the customer’s intent.

Police have not confirmed whether the act qualifies as a criminal offense, but the incident has drawn national attention and sparked discussions about realism in art, public safety, and free expression.
