Welcome to update number two of building our O-scale Hawkeye Village. We hope you enjoy following along our journey of building this O-scale modular train table adventure.

The time has come to lay the pre-weathered MTH track sections on the modular tables. Starting with both the curved ends, we snapped together the O-42 curves, which were necessary to accommodate the long passenger cars that we will be using. Next, we snapped to the longer straight sections which connect the three modules end to end. To assist with voltage drops we decided to put a power connection on both sides. To secure the tracks to the tables, we used #4 x 1 ¼ screws to go through the track, the foam bed and into the plywood tabletops.

Next came the wiring process. First, we drilled holes at the track powering points to feed the wires through. Now comes the dreaded time of crawling under the tables to do the wiring. We decided to allow for potential future power points by placing two six positions, covered terminal blocks from which to branch off from. It might be overkill, but we opted to use 14-gauge wire for our track power. Connecting a Lionel GW-180 transformer to the MTH WTIU fixed 1 input, then from the WTIU fixed 1 output to the terminal blocks became our power source. The wiring from the terminal blocks was then connected to the two track power connections. The wiring was secured using P-style mounting clips to ensure it remained unobstructed.
The following are some examples of operating the locomotive using the transformer. The WTIU will be discussed in a subsequent video.
