A low carb diet is also referred to sometimes as ketogenic diet with the Atkins diet being a famous example. Popular foods that are high in carbs are bread, beans, milk, popcorn, potatoes, cookies, spaghetti, soft drinks, and corn.

Some of the claimed benefits include weight loss, blood sugar control, and improved energy. This diet may also reverse kidney disease and stop other diseases from forming like diabetic kidney disease. This diet is most beneficial in early stages of kidney disease and diabetic kidney disease. Another group of people who can benefit from this diet are people who are obese and need to lose a lot of weight. This reduced weight in turn puts less stress on the kidney. Know that this diet is not always recommended depending on what stage of a condition you are in. It can even lead to higher mortality rates in certain situations. Always check with your doctor before starting a new diet.

Let's take a closer look at the low carb diet. First, in any instance where you remove an important nutrient group like carbohydrates, your body is going to be losing some of the essential nutrients that come from that food group. These include B vitamins, vitamin C, phytochemicals and fiber.
