The idea behind this board is : You take a normal step up shortboard and you cut the nose without touching to much the rest of the board. Doing so, you’ll have a wide point forward, and more rocker in the tail than in the nose but this for later !
and if you take it shorter, you can use it as a normal shortboard as well.

Programme : This board is built for good waves : reef breaks, beach breaks, point breaks. Design to go fast and shred the wave. So you need a certain level to handle this one because if not it can get wild.

The outline :
(nose) As the nose is shorter than a normal step up, a 6’0 equals a normal 6’4. So you have more pivot, easier to turn, more performance.

(Outline) The outline is quite thin. We want a board easy to control in hollow waves able to react quickly. That’s why we don’t want to much foam under our feet.

The wide point is further up than usual to generate more speed as you are paddling for a wave or driving through sections. And as we go towards the tail, it gets quite thin because we want to be able to make short turns !

(Tail)Then it has a round pin tail to give you drive and hold while pushing hard through long carves. John John does it quite well.

The rocker : is moderate to low in the nose. The nose is shorter so you can have a lower rocker as well which is an advantage to create more speed. quite agressive in the tail
The rails are tappered for more performance and sensitivity. Your board will bite into the wave as you go on to one of the rails.

Concave :
Classic single to double concave. The single concave is here to keep the water between the rails giving you lift for more speed and the double concave will split the water flow in 2 to improve your rail to rail transition under your back foot.

Thickness : This board carries quite a good amount of volume under your chest for easy paddling and generating speed. But is quite thin around the tail to give you hold and performance under the backfoot.

The Ghost Pro :

Why : The Ghost was sometimes a bit to thick and wide for more experienced surfers so Jon Pyzel came out with another version of it : the pro

Narrower and thinner than the Ghost
this means More performance = very good for good waves and good surfers. It is a refined and more versatile step up if you want. So less volume therefore a more technical board

My Opinion :

I Think this boards are great when it come to good waves even if the classic ghost doesn’t need especially barreling waves to work, you don’t need to be a pro to fully enjoy the potential of this board but you must know how to surf a shortboard. If you are an intermediate surfer, this board would be a goal to reach but not especially the one you need right now. I really like boards showing that you can charge without having a huge board under your feet. I guess we could say go short, but go big !
