Surge Slash Great Sword Vs. Special Investigation: Diablos - 特別討究 ディアブロス 流斬り連携 大剣 ソロ【サンブレイク】

This was a stupidly difficult quest. It felt more like I was chasing Diablos around than actually fighting...

But I really wanted to do this. Surge Slash on Diablos is something I've wanted to do a loooooong time ago on the channel. Now I decided to finally do it but on a Special Investigation level.

I was getting one shot even with the super armor of the playstyle. A single mistake and it was over. I can't recall the amount of times I reset this quest but I'm glad I at least got it done in 8 minutes which is pretty solid for a niche playstyle.

I like the moveset of Surge Slash but it is really difficult to control and position yourself with it. Any move feels like it sends you two meters forward. And the wide slash combo has some strange hitboxes.

Some moves on it also need to deal a lot more damage. The wide slash combo is the best but it also inexplicably deals twice more damage than the forward slash and backslash combos. The playstyle would be much better if the damage dealt by the finishers was similar, allowing for better variety in positioning and weakpoint-sniping. You can see a great example of me mixing the different combos at 5:41.

Lastly, only the backslash combo triggers the Palamute's whirlwind combo for some reason, and I didn't have a lot of opportunities to use it, aside from when Diablos was downed. And at some point I tried to use it but ended up cutting its tail.
