A practical discussion of how the Magnitude 4.8 Whitehouse Station, New Jersey earthquake of 5 April 2024 plus its foreshock of 14 March 2024 and almost 50 aftershocks (as of 15 April 2024 when this video was finalized and posted) that occurred along the Ramapo Fault Zone fit into the seismic history of the New York City metropolitan region. Also discussed are important geotechnical tools related to earthquakes such as seismic screening for liquefaction using cone-penetrometer data and paleoseismology to look for relict structures of past earthquakes in order to increase the existing database of seismic events.

Note that subsequent to posting this video on 15 April 2024, on 22 April 2024 the USGS renamed this seismic event the Tewksbury, New Jersey earthquake to better match the geographical name assigned to this event to the actual locations of the epicenters of the main event and most of the almost 200 aftershocks measured to date which were within Tewksbury Township, NJ.
