How to Install Ubuntu on VirtualBox (Step-by-Step Guide)

In this tutorial, I'll walk you through the entire process of installing Ubuntu on VirtualBox, step-by-step. Whether you're new to Linux or just want to try Ubuntu in a virtual environment, this guide covers everything you need to get started.

You'll learn how to:

Download and set up VirtualBox
Download the latest Ubuntu ISO
Create a new virtual machine
Configure the virtual machine settings
Install Ubuntu on the virtual machine
Perform basic post-installation steps to get your Ubuntu system up and running
By the end of this video, you'll have a fully functional Ubuntu system running inside VirtualBox on your Windows, macOS, or Linux machine, ready for testing or development purposes.

Steps:
[Installing]
1. Enable Virtual Machine Platform in Windows Features
2. Restart Computer
3. Go to https://virtualbox.org and click on the Download tab.
4. Download the platform of your computer (In my case Windows)
5. Run the Setup and keep everything as default
6. Go to https://ubuntu.com and click on Get Ubuntu then click Download Ubuntu Desktop
7. Download the latest version of Ubuntu (Currently 24.04.1 LTS)

[Setup VirtualBox]
8. Open VirtualBox and click New
9. Title your Machine and verify the Version matches your ISO.
10. Select your Base Memory and Number of Processors used
11. Select Storage size to use.
12. Click Finish
13. Click Settings then Storage
14. Select the disk next to Optical Drive then select Choose a Disk File
15. Select your Ubuntu .iso file
(Optional) - Enable Bidirectional Drag & Drop
(Optional) - Enable Bidirectional Shared Clipboard
16. Close the Settings and Click Start

[Setup Ubuntu]
17. Press Enter on *Try or Install Ubuntu
18. Follow instructions on setup
(Optional) - Enable Install third-party software for graphic and Wi-Fi hardware
(Optional) - Enable Download and install support for additional media formats
19. Restart Virtual Machine
20. Done!
