Cardinal by Korry Friend

World Premiere performance of my piece "Cardinal", performed by the Morehead State University Percussion Ensemble under direction of Dr. Brian S. Mason.

"The name “Cardinal” came from several different places. I knew that I was writing the piece for my teacher, who guided me through the time in my undergraduate. I then thought about the cardinal directions being used as a guide, so drew a parallel to this. The name also comes from my home state, Ohio, which the Cardinal serves as the state’s official bird. The piece is compiled of snapshots of the four years of my undergraduate degree. The style changes snap to a new semester; year; guest clinician; or memory that I had at Morehead State University."
