The Actors Workshop Ensemble is company of young actors specializing in an approach to acting that aims for a unified effect achieved by all members of a cast working together on behalf of the play, rather than emphasizing individual performances. The company is committed to self-study through text and script interpretation. Participants develop and sharpen self-awareness, observation, creative imagination, and the use of the body and voice. The Actors Workshop Ensemble prides itself in offering a creative, open, and nurturing experience so participants may develop technique and truth in acting.
The play follows the Skriker, “a shape shifter and death portent, ancient and damaged”, in its search for love and revenge as it pursues two young women to London, changing its shape at every new encounter. Along with the Skriker come Rawheadandbloodybones, Black Annis, the Kelpie, the Green Lady, Yallery Brown, Black Dog and more, till the whole country is swarming with enticing and angry creatures that have burst from the underworld.
Caryl Churchill has been hailed as a “dramatist who must surely be amongst the best half-dozen now writing” The Times. She is the author of some twenty plays including CLOUD NINE, TOP GIRLS, SERIOUS MONEY and MAD FOREST, all seen and admired all over the world.
The cast includes Fiona Hill, Sarah Wilson, Paige Dillon, Lauren Mehling, Erica Pikul, Mag, Christian, Bernal-Portela and Callum Hill. Director Paul Ellis has forty-five years of experience in the theater business. Ellis has directed over eighty plays including works by Jean Clause Van Itallie, Pedro Pietri, Len Jenkin, Sam Shepard and Landford Wilson.
