I thought I had my horse’s routine just right. Stabling her during the hot weather felt like the kindest choice — cooler, fly-free, calmer, less risk of gorging on lush summer grass.

But she wasn’t herself. Penny got grumpier… heavier… more shut down.

And then I remembered: horses turned out full-time can naturally walk 5–10 miles a day, even just grazing.

So I changed things. I gave her more freedom, more movement, and more choice.

In this video, I share a small lightbulb moment that helped me rethink her care — not from a place of blame, but with curiosity and compassion.
