The importance of drones in public safety can be the difference between life and death. A drone gives first responders a bird's-eye view of the scene, whether it be a structure fire, hazardous materials incident, or missing child.

Several years ago, a young boy went missing within a fire district to the east of us. Several members of our department, along with hundreds of searchers, spent many hours searching the area looking for this poor child. Unfortunately, the boy was found deceased several months later. I have no doubt that if a drone was used in this search, the chances of finding this boy would have increased dramatically.

To my knowledge, there are only a handful of drones within Region I. This would be a tool that would be available to all agencies if requested.
