પણ હવે ફક્ત દેખાડો કરવાનો સમય છે. ૪૦ વર્ષ પહેલાંનું એ જીવન ક્યાંક ખોવાઈ ગયું છે. હવે કોઈ બીજાના ઘરે ટીવી જોવા નથી જતું, કે ચાર લોકો એકસાથે ક્રિકેટ મેચ જોવા નથી જતા. આજે ટેકનોલોજીએ કામ સરળ બનાવ્યું છે પણ સાથે સાથે માનવીઓને એકબીજાથી અલગ પણ કરી દીધા છે. એ સમય હતો જ્યારે ધોરણ ૫ પાસ કરનાર વિદ્યાર્થીને પણ સરકારી નોકરી મળી શકતી હતી. ગામમાં ફક્ત થોડા લોકો જ શિક્ષિત હતા કારણ કે અંગ્રેજોના પગની ધૂળ હજુ સુધી સાફ થઈ ન હતી.
ગામના લોકો ફક્ત ખેતી પર નિર્ભર હતા. મોટાભાગની ગામડાની શાળાઓ ફક્ત પાંચમા ધોરણ સુધી મર્યાદિત હતી. પાંચમા ધોરણ પછી બાળકોને અભ્યાસ માટે બીજા શહેરમાં જવું પડતું. તમે બાળકોને સાયકલ પર શાળાએ જતા પણ જોયા હશે. આજકાલ આવા દ્રશ્યો જોવા મળતા નથી અને 40 વર્ષ પહેલાં, રસોડામાં વપરાતા પેટ્રોલથી લઈને સરસવના તેલ સુધીની દરેક વસ્તુ એટલી સસ્તી હતી કે તમે પણ તે સાંભળીને આશ્ચર્યચકિત થઈ જશો.
હા મિત્રો, ૧૯૮૦ ની આસપાસ પેટ્રોલનો ભાવ ૪ થી ૫ રૂપિયા પ્રતિ લિટર હતો. ડીઝલ 1 રૂપિયાથી 2 રૂપિયાની વચ્ચે વેચાતું હતું. હવે વિચારો, આજકાલ 4 રૂપિયાની કિંમત કેટલી છે? અને ભાત કોણ નથી ખાતું? તો ૧૯૮૦ ની આસપાસ ચોખાનો ભાવ માત્ર ૧ રૂપિયા પ્રતિ કિલો હતો. 40 વર્ષ પહેલાં ઘણી બધી વસ્તુઓ સસ્તી હતી...
