Drawing with Paul Ringler - Visual Art for Intermediate, Junior High, and High School

"It takes more skill to sign your name than to draw," says artist-teacher Paul Ringler. "You draw with your head not your hand." Where most people fall down, he says, is in not knowing procedures -- or in knowing too little about the subject they are drawing.

This studio art series gives students from fifth grade through high school time-tested procedures they can apply to any kind of drawing. The teacher's guide reviews the instructional content in print and drawings and the "try it" suggestion with which each program ends. It correlates the programs with two widely mandated textbooks and lists additional resources for students and teachers.

Draw Along, Mr. Ringler's popular series for the primary grades, helps children draw specific objects. The emphasis in these programs for older students is on the drawing process.

"Not laws," he says. "Art isn't that way. We make suggestions and show them options."
