Today has many names: the Vernal Equinox, the Spring Equinox, the First Day of Spring. 🌸

The Equinox marks the first time in the new year when the day and night are the same length. The word “equinox” means “equal night”. This is possible because the Earth’s tilt is zero in relation to the sun. If you’re at the equator, the sun would be directly overhead. 🌞 🌚

While the Spring Equinox has ties to Celtic celebrations, and even St. Patrick’s Day, it is most important for… farmers!

To farmers, the Spring Equinox meant it was time to get back to farming.

Relying on this type of celestial signal would have been important to the Duffy family and other settlers in the 1800’s.

The Duffy family would prepare their tools for planting wheat and other crops on the 60 acres of land…a tradition we are carrying on today!
