The web version of Facebook doesn't have audio effects other than when you receive messages. If you want to silence these distracting noises, here's how. Below, we describe the steps for Facebook's website, but the desktop app is virtually identical and follows the same procedures.

On Facebook, navigate to the downward-pointing arrow in the top-right corner. Head to the Settings & Privacy menu - Settings. In the left-hand sidebar, select Notifications. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the How You Get Notifications page and select the Browser option.

Under Sounds, click on the sliders to disable sound playing when a notification is received or a message is received. By doing this, the sounds associated with Facebook notifications and messages are turned off, your attention is instead directed elsewhere.
