About this video: OptiFine is one of Minecraft’s most popular mods allowing you to increase performance and add in shaders. Because of this, it is common to want these features when playing with CurseForge modpacks.

However, many CuresForge modpacks already have OptiFine like features built in from the start, and if you add OptiFine to them, they simply won’t work. So then first step is playing the modpack you want to add OptiFine to and going to Options and Video Settings. Often, you will see “Shaders” in the top right on in the sidebar and a lot of performance settings. This is because the modpack is adding in OptiFine features without using OptiFine. In this case, tweak the settings to get better performance or add in some shaders.

What if the modpack doesn’t have these features though? Well, go back to CuresForge and click on it. Assuming it is a Forge modpack, make note of the Minecraft version number.

Then, navigate to the OptiFine download page by Googling “OptiFine Download”. Locate the Minecraft version your modpack is for. You may have to click “See More Versions” and then click “mirror” next to that version of OptiFine. Click “Download” and the download will begin.

Now, to add this to CuresForge, just right-click on the modpack in the “My Modpacks” tab. Click “Open Folder”, and a folder will open with a mods folder in it. Move OptiFine into this mods folder.

Playing your modpack should now have OptiFine installed if the modpack is compatible with it. Sometimes, the modpack won’t be, and you won’t be able to use OptiFine with CurseForge in that case.

If the modpack you are playing is Fabric or NeoForge, you can use Sodium and Iris Shaders. These can both be downloaded from Modrinth and added to the mods using the exact method we used for OptiFine.
