Mog is a Moogle who joins your party. He is one of the 3 optional, secret characters and can be claimed once you get the Blackjack in the World of Balance and again in the World of Ruin. Quite a few players miss catching him here.

HOW TO GET HIM

Once you get the Blackjack, go back to Narshe and check the treasure room. Lone Wolf has escaped from jail and stole the locked item, a Gold Hairpin. He then makes off with the loot to Valigarmandr's perch in the mountains. After standing for awhile, Mog will break free and send them both on the ledge.

You can either help Mog up, who will join your party, or help Lone Wolf up, who will give you the Gold Hairpin he stole. The Gold Hairpin is a Relic that halves all MP costs. To be honest, I'd rather take Mog now as Zona Seeker's Osmose makes up for MP costs by stealing it.

WHY GET MOG NOW?
==================
You can begin stat maxing and tuning Mog at an earlier level with easier monsters to fight with then in the World of Ruin. Plus, you can begin acquiring his Dances in battles.

The most popular reason however is you can only get the Aqua Rhapsody dances in the World of Balance as the two areas you acquire them (The Raft Ride and Serpent's Trench) are only accessible in the World of Balance.

In the World of Ruin, you can still get it, but you will have to bring Mog for fighting Leviathan. In the SNES version, you must learn Aqua Rhapsody now while you can.
